About Us
Alex Mateas has achieved what few athletes can. As the first overall pick in the CFL Draft, a Grey Cup Champion, and a Division 1 full-ride scholarship recipient, Alex’s success is rooted in mastering key skills: handling pressure, staying coachable, and developing elite athleticism. These lessons helped him overcome challenges in every sport, pushing him to surpass others and stand out as a true competitor.
Raised in Ottawa, Alex grew up surrounded by sports and education. His father, a soccer coach, ran a club that helped players compete internationally, and his mother, a college professor, taught him how to learn smarter and train more effectively. These tools shaped Alex’s ability to simplify complex lessons—something he now uses to teach young athletes.
Alex’s journey wasn’t always smooth. He was too big for soccer, too short for basketball, and weightlifting didn’t give him the spotlight he craved. But when a basketball coach suggested football, Alex found his fit. It was his mental toughness and ability to adapt that allowed him to thrive where others struggled.
With Athlete IQ, Alex turns his journey into a program designed to help young athletes succeed faster. Using lessons from world-class coaches like Joe Paterno and Daniel Robitaille, paired with a playbook built for all learning styles, Alex’s program is unlike anything else. It’s built to make athletes confident, competitive, and ready to thrive in any sport.
