About Alex
Alex Mateas has dedicated his life to understanding what makes athletes truly stand out. Through Athlete IQ, he combines decades of experience, world-class coaching, and hard-earned lessons to help young athletes and their parents achieve results faster and more effectively.
Born in Ottawa to a Romanian father who ran a soccer club and a Canadian mother who led a college nursing division, Alex grew up immersed in education and sports. Despite struggling in school, his mother taught him how to study and practice smarter—methods he now uses to simplify lessons for athletes.
Alex dreamed of playing professional sports but faced challenges in every sport he tried. Too big for soccer, too short for basketball, weightlifting lacked fame, and rugby wasn’t the right fit. Despite this, he developed perseverance and adaptability, eventually excelling in football. (Accomplishments below)
Now, Alex combines decades of elite training and lessons from world-class coaches like Joe Paterno and Daniel Robitaille to help athletes unlock their potential. Athlete IQ is his way of turning those lessons into fast, effective results for athletes who want to stand out and win.
